Welcome to
Peaks & Creeks Counseling
KARL J SHACKELFORD, MDiv, BCC
I offer resources for hurting people through individual counseling, support groups, and workshops, providing effective tools for walking through the most difficult times in life, as well as building a foundation for healthy living and relationships.
Grief & loss can be excruciating, confusing, and even debilitating, and leave us needing help navigating the complexities of our painful experiences. I also provide marriage, pre-marriage and general relationship counseling for families, couples and individuals.
Grief & Loss
Losing someone you love creates a pain like you’ve never experienced before. When you find yourself unable to move forward, you need help with healing from grief. Grief is not something you get over, but something you learn to live with. I have been helping people navigate this journey for years, and would be happy to walk through it with you
Building Resilience
Stress takes a toll on all of us, and there are times when we allow our energy reserves to become so depleted that we find ourselves mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually and relationally empty. In this condition we make mistakes, miss opportunities, create pain for ourselves and others, and threaten our physical health. I can help you understand what got you to this place and help chart a new course.
Relationship Counseling
If you need help in a broken relationship, or simply want to strengthen one, I have the skills and training to bring new insights and solutions you may not have seen. I love guiding a couple toward marriage through pre-marriage counseling. I also have found great success with adolescents and families where help is needed on a range of issues.
Therapeutic Approach
I believe with counseling people want to be heard and understood, but also equipped with tools to grow and develop resilience to live a healthy life. I primarily use a cognitive behavioral therapy method and I am solution-focused, meaning I believe you should feel you are making progress with each conversation. As a chaplain I believe faith is a critical component of emotional health.
Qualification & Experience
I am a board-certified clinical chaplain and a registered psychotherapist with the state of Colorado. Qualified as a grief, relationship, and resilience coach outside Colorado, I bring decades of life experience, training, and skill at helping hurting people find healing. As a certified HeartMath trainer I successfully help those struggling with the effects of stress, anxiety and adversity create and store energy to build resilience. I can help with anxiety, trauma, depression, and hopelessness. I work primarily with adolescents and adults of all ages.
